What is the value of archaeology for urban adaptation?

I just returned from the Innovate4Cities Conference in Montreal. I was interested in learning how archaeology can offer insights into today’s most pressing climate challenges. Can archaeology reveal how ancient civilizations responded to resource depletion and environmental changes? Some societies succeeded, while others failed. Can these historical lessons inform contemporary urban strategies?

CfAS is hosting a Design Workshop on Urban Adaptation to Environmental Change at the Amerind Foundation next week. In anticipation of the workshop, we invite the CfAS community to share their ideas on how archaeological insights might contribute to addressing today’s urban resilience and sustainability challenges, please use the comment section below!
